IMMAF is delighted to welcome a brand-new country to its membership family, through the Kenya MMA Federation (KEMMAF).
Based in Nairobi, the nation’s capital, KEMMAF is the national governing body for Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) in Kenya, registered as a national sports organisation and holds sole authority to regulate, sanction, and develop MMA at all levels within the Republic of Kenya.
KEMMAF’s origins trace back to 2007, with the Federation being formally reconstituted in 2026 as the Kenya Mixed Martial Arts Federation, with an exclusive mandate to govern MMA in Kenya. Alphonce Wanzallah serves as the KEMMAF president, with the board of directors including Sharon Ogaji, Frank Muriithi, and Julio Desouza.
KEMMAF governs MMA across all competitive tiers, from grassroots club-level participation, through to the National MMA Championships and international representation under the banner of the IMMAF World Championships and IMMAF Asian Championships. The national body is also responsible for athlete licensing, coach certification, training of officials, event sanctioning, anti-doping compliance, and safeguarding.
In addition to its IMMAF membership, KEMMAF will join with the African MMA Confederation (AMMAC) – IMMAF’s continental affiliate comprised of members specific to the region.
KEMMAF president, Alphonce Wanzallah stated: “I am delighted to receive the news that the Kenya Mixed Martial Arts Federation is now officially recognized and affiliated with IMMAF, the leading global MMA body. I am confident this partnership will significantly advance the development of MMA in Kenya and Africa, and I look forward to our teams organizing and participating in IMMAF events.”
