Oleksii Bolbochan’s Gold Rush Continues, Roksana Piechowiak Finds Redemption | 2025 IMMAF European Championships

By Hasan Khan

Day 3 of the 2025 IMMAF European Championships delivered a day of remarkable performances, shattering expectations and showcasing the impressive depth of talent within the Youth A divisions. With thrilling victories, unexpected upsets, and the emergence of new champions.

Poland’s Ksawery Mosing made a statement in the men’s Strawweight division, successfully defending his European Championship title in dominant fashion. Mosing’s impressive striking arsenal, characterized by lightning-fast reflexes and an ability to maintain distance, saw him earn his fourth overall IMMAF title. This win solidified his place as one of the premier athletes in the current Youth roster. In the Women’s division, Roksana Piechowiak, recovering from previous setbacks, earned her first European Gold. Displaying an exceptional blend of grappling precision and positional control, Piechowiak’s performance exemplified her growth and resilience, marking the start of a new chapter in her IMMAF career.

England’s Bradley McDonough made a formidable impression in the Bantamweight division with a display of technical brilliance and unyielding persistence. McDonough’s jiu-jitsu-heavy approach, highlighted by multiple takedowns and his varied submission game, was a testament to his versatility. His victory not only added another championship to his impressive resume but also further cemented his status as a force within the IMMAF ranks.

Representing Italy, Domenico Viscusi brought a unique combination of power and technique to the Middleweight division. His rapid body shots and expertly executed foot sweeps were key in securing dominant positions. While he ultimately did not capture the title, Viscusi’s performance in the quarterfinals highlighted his skill and endurance, establishing him as one of the standout athletes to watch in future tournaments.

Nemanja Blagojevic, the reigning heavyweight champion of Serbia, displayed his trademark raw strength and dominance in the opening round. His power-based approach overwhelmed his competition, forcing a rapid submission using the raw strength of his head to apply pressure to the back of his competitor’s neck. However, Blagojevic’s pursuit of back-to-back European Youth titles came to an abrupt halt at the hands of Ukraine’s Volodymyr Shcherban. In a highly dramatic turn of events, Shcherban triumphed by technical default, winning with a triangle choke mere seconds earlier than Blagojevic had achieved.

In the Lightweight division, Oleksii Bolbochan continued his reign as the European Youth Champion, defending his title with a performance that exemplified his mastery of both jiu-jitsu and wrestling. Bolbochan’s superior grappling and top control kept his opponent under constant pressure, reinforcing his status as one of IMMAF’s most consistent and dangerous competitors. With this victory, Ukraine further solidified its position at the top of the medal table.

Ukraine’s supremacy in the 2025 Youth A European Championships was underscored by an exceptional medal tally of 14, including 5 Golds, while England secured second place with 7 total medals, including 3 Golds.

As the competition moves into the Junior and Senior divisions, the question remains: will Ukraine maintain its dominant position, or will new challengers emerge? The upcoming rounds promise to deliver more intense action and unforgettable moments.
