Team Ireland – Nation Spotlight | 2025 IMMAF European Championships

By Cauley Quilty

Excitement is at an all-time high as fans eagerly await one of amateur MMA’s premier annual events, the 2025 IMMAF European Championships.

This year’s event takes place in Belgrade, Serbia from the 14th to 23rd of February, with all the action broadcast live on IMMAF.TV.

Team Ireland will be looking to kick off the year with a statement, following on from their successful 2024 World Championship campaign where they accumulated a total of four medals, including one gold. The Irish contingent are hungry to replicate their past successes on an even larger scale, with a team of experienced IMMAF competitors alongside a new generation of athletes, who will be eager to prove their level and express their talents on the global stage.

Amongst those veteran athletes who will be participating in the upcoming tournament is a wealth of past winners & medalists including the likes of Kiya O’Sullivan, the 2021 IMMAF World Championship gold medalist. O’Sullivan returns to take back what was once hers, this time in the Sr. Women’s Flyweight division, following an impressive 2024 where a viral head-kick knockout on the regional scene sparked a buzz throughout the internet.

2024 Junior European Champion Jordan Scully will be looking to make it back-to-back championships in the lightweight bracket, only this time he faces a new challenge, competing amongst the Seniors.

Another familiar name amongst the squad is the always-exciting Kevin Walsh. Evolving with each tournament, the two-time World Championship Bronze medalist and 2024 Junior Euro’s Silver medalist will compete in the Flyweight bracket, as he looks to add yet another accolade to his collection.

Senior Flyweights will be on notice as Kian McCarton returns, aiming to leave with his hand raised in the finals of this year’s competition, after just missing out on the gold back in 2024.

A number of athletes will also be making their promotional debuts under the IMMAF banner. One athlete that spectators are expecting to make an impact is Senan Coakley. The younger brother of Irish Muay Thai and ONE Championship star Craig Coakley, all eyes will be on Senan as he enters the competition with high expectations.
