The International MMA Federation (IMMAF), the Serbian MMA Federation and BRAVE Combat Federation held a press conference in Belgrade, Serbia, on Sunday, January 15 to officially launch IMMAF World Championships Week and the Serbia BRAVE International Combat Week. It will be the first time BRAVE CF is holding its International Combat Week outside of Bahrain.
The 2022 IMMAF World Championships will get the week underway on February 11, with the final day of competition to take place on February 17. BRAVE CF 69 will close out the week of action on February 18 in the Stark Arena, Belgrade.
IMMAF Certification Courses, the IMMAF Amateur MMA Awards, and the IMMAF Annual General Meeting (AGM) are also scheduled to take place as a part of IMMAF World Championships Week.
IMMAF President Kerrith Brown, Serbian MMA Federation President Luka Nikolic and BRAVE CF President Mohammad Shahid were all in attendance at the press conference, joined by Serbian Minister of Sports Zoran Gajic and UFC star Aleksandar Rakic.
Speaking at the press conference, IMMAF President Kerrith Brown expressed his gratitude to the Serbian Federation and Government and the BRAVE CF team for their support in hosting IMMAF’s flagship event.
‘’I would like to thank the president of the Serbian MMA federation, Luka, and the Prime Minister for hosting the IMMAF and BRAVE CF events between February 11 and February 18. I want to also thank His Highness Shaikh Khaled bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Mohammad Shahid, and the entire BRAVE CF team for their support in making this event happen’.”
BRAVE CF President Mohammad Shahid added:
‘’We have seen the case study of how much the sport has changed in the Middle East and Asia. What we are witnessing today is the massive change that we saw in a whole continent also happening now in Europe. This will be a historic moment for all the athletes in the continent and around the World. They will be competing in Europe for the first time in a World Championship’.”
The 2022 IMMAF World Championships is set to be the largest edition of the Championships yet, with over 550 athletes from 63 expected to compete.
The Senior competition will feature six weight divisions for female athletes, from Atomweight to Lightweight, and ten for male athletes, from Strawweight to Super Heavyweight. The World Championships will be conducted per the latest IMMAF Amateur rules.
All six days of action will be available to stream on IMMAF’s OTT platform, IMMAF.TV, for fans all over the World.
