On November 11, the Tunisian Mixed Martial Arts Association(TMMAA) achieved its long-awaited goal of sports recognition for MMA by the Tunisian Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The organisation officially became the first MMA governing body under the Tunisian Kyokushinkai and Martial Arts Federation.
This comes five years after the TMMAA obtained official accreditation as a sports Association from the Tunisian Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and acted as an observational “new sports“ association.
Until now, the TMMAA has been under the Presidency of Amin Nacheb and the initial founding board, actively operating as an official representative of IMMAF in the country.
This official status gives the sport greater opportunity for development in Tunisia. To date, Tunisia has had six athletes compete in IMMAF, with Souhaib Dahmani winning the nation’s first medal at the 2018 Africa Championships.
The federation has plans to organise and participate in local tournaments in the future. Having not competed at IMMAF since 2018, they hope recognition will grant them further opportunities to compete in international tournaments.
