Dynamic Hungarian Federation looking forward to IMMAF Events

The Hungarian Mixed Martial Arts Federation HMMAF is blazing a trail as one of IMMAF’s most dynamic federations.

Despite the Covid-19 Pandemic, HMMAF worked extremely hard in 2020 to promote the sport, encourage athletes and officials and to build relationships with key players across sport and is now preparing for a return to competition in 2021 with a full schedule of events and a determination to take part in IMMAF Competitions.

Gábor Kókai, who has been HMMAF President since June 2020 said: “Last year we had a newly elected leadership team and created new goals and plans to develop the federation and promote the sport of MMA. The association has many plans for 2021. Despite ongoing Covid restrictions, we will hold the Hungarian championship qualifiers without spectators and fans – for now – but hopefully that will change. We will also continue the training of referees, which started last year, and we are steering our coaches to the IMMAF App, which includes coach education. As in 2020, we will organize a training camp in Szeged in 2021 too. But our main priority is to send competitors to IMMAF championships.

Co-operation with other combat sports

HMMAF believes in making alliances with other combat sports and were happy to co-operate with Hungary’s “Karate Kombat Promotion.” HMMAF provided licensed referees and judges to work at their events as well as supervisory support.

Training camps for Athletes and Officials

Despite the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, HMMAF organised a Summer Training Camp in 2020, providing a safe environment which fully fulfilled all compulsory pandemic regulations during training and referee education courses, where they were able to improve the level of our officials’ skills.

Fight Night

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, in accordance with the recommendations of local government, the HMMAF Amateur MMA Championship took place in Szeged, in November 2020, without spectators and fans, but were still a great success with participants.

MMA is a Sport Campaign

HMMAF was fully behind the international lobbying campaign “MMA is a sport” which aimed to educate people about the sport credentials and benefits of amateur MMA and lobby for its inclusion as a recognised sport by the international sports body GAISF. HMMAF collected signatures for Petition on “MMA is a sport” and promoted the campaign on social networks and with specially created merchandise.

With the IMMAF Event Calendar now confirmed, 2021 is shaping up to be an exciting one for amateur MMA in Hungary.
