Ukraine's Daryna Harber Impresses With Submission Win Over World Silver Medalist Eriksson

Ukraine’s Daryna Harbar (pictured) completed an impressive debut on the international IMMAF – WMMAA platform, upsetting 2018 junior world championships flyweight silver medalist, Millie Eriksson, on Day 2 of the European Open in Rome.

The 2019 European Open Championships take place from 18-23 June.

In stepping up to the senior level, 19-year-old Eriksson faced toughening opposition on the Swedish circuit, against national team mates and prominent international senior medalists Nina Back and Frida Vastamaki, going the distance on each occasion.

The Swedish hopeful had a perfect start on Day 2 of the 2019 European Open. The first round saw Eriksson coolly remain out range as she picked Harbar apart from the outside.

The tables turned, however, as Harbar adapted from round two onward, recognizing the need for greater commitment to push through Eriksson’s range and land on the inside with a view to finding an answer on the ground.

With the scores even heading into round 3, Harbar ended the contest as she worked from guard for an arm-bar, eventually forcing a verbal submission from the belly down position.

Harbar advances to the final 8 where is set to meet Italy’s experienced tournament veteran, 2018 European Open silver medalist and World bronze medalist, Ilaria Norcia, on June 21.
