Classy Morris Cruises to European Open Quarter-Finals

Junior flyweight world champion Megan Morris transitioned seamlessly as she stepped up to the senior women’s bantamweight ranks, showcasing vast development through a classy performance to book her place in the 2019 European Open quarter finals.

In her opening bout on Day 2 of the IMMAF – WMMAA European Open in Rome, Morris faced off against Spain’s Silvia Juaneda. Morris proved she can take a shot while also producing a superb, aggressive striking display of composed shots, beautiful head movement and counter strikes.

Morris maintained the aggressive tempo and confidently moved in and out of range, showing good distance awareness, slipping and landing in response, mixing in an effective Thai clinch with knees to the body of her opponent.

Juaneda rallied in the final round to fight for an arm-bar on the ground, but time was not on her side as Morris bit down and held her grip for the final 10 seconds. The Team UK standout cruised to the final 8 with a unanimous decision nod from the judges.
