Spanish Amateur MMA Championships on May 4 Will Include Anti-Doping

National Amateur MMA Championships will take place in Spain on May 4 in the city of Guadalajara.

The championships will host 93 athletes, who progressed from across 11 regional federations under the banner of national regulatory body, the Spanish Federation of Olympic Wrestling and Associated Disciplines (FELUCHA).

The national championships serve as a gateway for athletes to the Spanish national team ahead of the 2019 IMMAF-WMMAA European Open and Junior European Open Championships, taking place from 18-23 June in Rome, Italy. Gold medalists in Guadalajara will be recognised by FELUCHA as primary representatives set for Rome with silver and bronze medalists also in line for a place in the national team.

Furthermore, doping controls are set to be implemented by the Spanish Agency for the Protection of Health in Sport (AEPSD), with all athletes subject to potential testing. Commitment to regulating clean sport at the national level sees FELUCHA join counterparts such as FIGMMA in Italy, in leading the way to mirroring the regulatory standards of international IMMAF-WMMAA championships.

The competition can be streamed directly via www.felucha.com, with programming of the finals to be produced by LALIGASPORTS.

Elimination rounds are expected to take place from 09.30 to 14.00 (CEST) with semi-finals playing out at 16:00 and finals beginning at 20.00.

Spain achieved a bronze medal at the 2018 IMMAF-WMMAA Unified World Championships, as senior men’s featherweight Enrique Hecher Sosa impressed with a trio of unanimous decision wins before falling short in a split decision semi-final against Bulgaria’s Delyan Georgiev, who would go on to win the world title for a second year running.
