On 28 January the Czech MMA Association (MMAA) celebrated the 30th installment of it’s National Amateur MMA League, taking place in the prominent OC Nová Harfa mall in Prague, the nation’s capital. The free-to-view event was the latest showcase of MMAA’s annual league for amateur MMA competitors. The national competition is set to roll out with monthly stages and the Harfa mall playing host for further rounds coming up, on full view for the public. The national league is a continuation of the momentum established with Prague hosting the 2016 IMMAF European Open Championships. Last year’s IMMAF European Open took place from 22-26 November at Prague’s Arena of Sparta. Men’s Bantamweight competitor Jan Vaclavek secured bronze for his country, besting Team UK’s Jack Flanagan and Northern Ireland’s Jack Corr, each via submission, before losing out to Renato Vidovic in the semi-finals with the Swedish representative going on to win the gold medal. The Czech national team was represented by a total of 9 athletes on home soil and events such as the national amateur league will continue to serve as an effective development platform for grass roots talent and future contender on the international stage. The 2017 European Open takes place 29 March – 2 April in Sofia, Bulgaria. Registration is currently open via MyNextMatch.com.  ]]>
