As Judo veterans with the experience of 5 Olympic Games between them, the duo were invited to SBG by Ireland’s representing governing body to IMMAF, the Irish Amateur Pankration Association (IAPA), and its President John Kavanagh. Mr Brown recently spoke with IMMAF.org and recalled a short discussion between the IMMAF heads and UFC world champion Conor McGregor. Mr Brown was pleased to witness first hand McGregor’s enthusiasm and understanding for the governance and development of Amateur MMA. “Both I and Densign were invited to lead a session at SBG Ireland, and Conor came over. We had an interesting conversation and he certainly understands the importance of developing amateur talent. It’s great to hear this recognition coming from someone like Conor, in the position that he has ascended to. It is great also for IMMAF to have John Kavanagh as President of the Irish Amateur Pankration Association as John’s perspective is also widely regarded.” Kerrith Brown earned bronze at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and prior to joining the IMMAF served with success as Chairman of the British Judo Association, establishing the BJA Centre of Excellence at the University of Wolverhampton in 2013.
