th July 2015) The International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) announced at its recent General Assembly that its first IMMAF European Open Championships of Amateur MMA will take place from 19
th through to 22
nd November in Birmingham, in the United Kingdom. The tournament venue will be the Walsall Sports Centre at the University of Wolverhampton. Participants will be accommodated in Birmingham city centre. Situated in the heart of the British Midlands, Birmingham is a lively cultural hotspot at the hub of England’s rail and motorway networks. The city has its own international airport, Birmingham Airport. For the foreseeable future, IMMAF continental tournaments will be open to competitors from member countries from all across the world, and not just countries from within the continent. The intent is to maximize the number of world level competitive opportunities for Amateur athletes in Mixed Martial Arts. Athletes wishing to compete must apply through their national IMMAF affiliated MMA federation. The European Championships will also be open to 2 representatives per country for each weight class, spanning Strawweight to Featherweight for women and Flyweight to Super Heavyweight for men. Further weight categories may be opened up for women, subject to demand. Commissioned by the United Kingdom Mixed Martial Arts Federation (UKMMAF), the IMMAF European Open Championships will feature on UFC FIGHT PASS, post-event.
