Sharon Ogaji is a dedicated Safeguarding Officer in Sports and an emerging sports management professional with a legal background. Passionate about ensuring safe, inclusive, and ethical sporting environments, she is committed to integrating best practices into sports governance, with a strong focus on athlete welfare and protection.
She holds a Certificate in Safeguarding Officer in Sports, accredited by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from Strathmore University. With expertise in safeguarding policy development, compliance, risk assessment and management, Ms. Ogaji has made significant contributions to the Kenyan sports organizations, having worked with the National Olympic Committee of Kenya, and aspires to extend her impact to international sports governance.
As a Freelance Safeguarding Officer, she has played a pivotal role in developing safeguarding frameworks, training sports stakeholders, and strengthening athlete protection mechanisms within the Kenyan sports ecosystem. Notably, she was honored to lead Kenya’s first-ever Safeguarding Training of Trainers seminar for coaches, staff, and volunteers across all national sports federations in collaboration with the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK). This initiative aimed to disseminate safeguarding knowledge, ensure that federations establish designated safeguarding leads, and promote athlete protection at all levels.
She also contributed to the development of the safeguarding policy and code of conduct for the Trinbago 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all participants. She has also worked closely with the Taekwondo Federation of Kenya, raising awareness on safeguarding and its importance in sports.
Beyond safeguarding, she is a highly accomplished athlete with a profound understanding of the sporting world. A high school regional record holder in triple jump (2014-2017), she also excels in basketball, having earned an 80% sports scholarship at Strathmore University for her undergraduate studies. She was twice named Most Valuable Player (MVP) for Strathmore Women’s Basketball (2019- 2022) and currently competes in the Kenyan National Premier League, representing Stanbic Bank of Kenya.
