The Chairman of the Commission, Irman Smajic, was an outstanding heavyweight and one of Sweden’s most decorated amateur MMA talents. As well as multiple IMMAF World titles, Irman was also a gold medallist at the European and Asian Open Championships. Irman successfully made his professional MMA debut in 2018, having first started his athletic journey later than most, as a means to combat obesity. Outside of MMA, Irman is a dentist and has been involved with volunteer causes to provide dental care for children in the Philippines following Super Typhon Yolanda. Irman’s journey cements him not only as a role model for mixed martial artists, but for all individuals looking to utilise sport as a path to greater wellness.
Daniyal is an IMMAF veteran of 4 years who achieved bronze medals for Sweden at the IMMAF World Championships, European Open and World Cup. Born in Dagestan, Daniyal has spent much of his life in Sweden where he has achieved academic success in earning a diploma for the title of LL.M (Master of Law). Daniyal concluded his tenure as an amateur MMA competitor following the 2022 European Open. He now practices law professionally, specialising in business law. His collective experience has the great ability to relate with countless athletes who pursue education during their competitive years and consider alternative avenues for a career and life after MMA.
Lariah is the first ever youth athlete to join the IMMAF Athletes Commission. She is a 2x IMMAF youth world champion who aims to make history in 2023 by winning the youth A under 18’s title ahead of becoming a junior contender with Team USA. Lariah has established herself as an outgoing world leader of the IMMAF youth pathway and domestic USFL national youth circuit. Lariah joins the Athletes Commission as a representative of the very latest generation of talented young prospects heading towards MMA’s future.
MMA fans worldwide will need no introduction to Forrest Griffin, a legendary figure who has contributed to a wealth of UFC history. Forrest achieved prominence as winner of the inaugural series of The Ultimate Fighter. His role in the legendary series finale has gone down in history as the bout that saved the UFC. Forrest progressed to later win the UFC light-heavyweight championship. Prior to his MMA career, Forrest achieved a degree in political science and served as a police officer. Following his retirement from MMA competition Forrest was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame and has remained with the organisation as vice-president of athlete development at the UFC Performance Insititute. Forrest has demonstrated a keen interest in the IMMAF and establishing opportunity and pathways for amateur athletes. He delivers expert career insights for the IMMAF Athletes Commission and donates time to support the USFL as chairman of the Team USA selection committee.
Colleen is an avid sportsperson who catapulted herself and Malaysia to success on the IMMAF platform as a young contender, winning gold at the 2018 Asian Open in ferocious style and earning bronze in 2019 at the record setting Unified World Championships. Colleen’s success in the IMMAF cage has seen her appear on Malaysian television and she has masterfully utilised online platforms to spread wellness content in the health & fitness sector, becoming a brand ambassador for multiple leading companies and championing the participation of women across several grass roots sports.
Veja is the latest addition to the IMMAF Athletes Commission and the first representative for Africa. Veja made a huge impact in his debut at the 2022 Africa Championships, also the first appearance Namibia, where he earned gold with spectacular performances in the men’s featherweight division. He went on to deliver a strong showing at the 2023 World Championships and was among the nominees for best newcomer at the IMMAF Amateur MMA Awards. Veja is another member of Athletes Commission to pursue academic achievement alongside his competitive exploits, graduating with a degree in law and plans for a career in the field upon completion of his journey in MMA.
