Second AMMAC General Assembly Held in Luanda, Angola

The second General Assembly of the African Mixed Martial Arts Confederation convened in Luanda, bringing together representatives from member federations across the continent. Delegates met in person to review annual activities and outline strategic priorities aimed at advancing mixed martial arts throughout Africa.

AMMAC and Mauritius Federation President Avinash Ramtohul formally opened proceedings with a message centred on unity and collaboration. He emphasised the importance of a collective approach to strengthening the sport and building a cohesive African federation focused on long term development and future generations.

IMMAF President Kerrith Brown addressed the Assembly, providing an update on the organisation’s ongoing pathway towards global recognition. He also extended his appreciation to FAMMA President Armando Carlos Diogo for the successful delivery of the 10th IMMAF African Championships, highlighting his continued contribution to the growth of MMA in Africa.

A key development announced during the Assembly was the rollout of an anti-doping education programme across AMMAC member federations. The initiative will be overseen by Union of the Comoros Federation President Imara Said and delivered in partnership with the International Testing Agency. As part of the programme, member federations will be required to ensure a minimum number of athletes and coaches complete certification in line with international standards.

Henry George, representing the Nigerian Mixed Martial Arts Federation, reported significant national progress, including official government recognition and recognition by the Nigerian Olympic Committee. He also confirmed that mixed martial arts has been included in the National Sports Festival, set to take place in Enugu State from 27 November to 11 December 2026.

Further international development was highlighted by Imara Said, who announced the inclusion of mixed martial arts in the 2027 Pacific Games. The competition will be managed by the Union of the Comoros MMA national federation, with member federations formally invited to participate.

The Assembly also received and reviewed the Annual Activity Report, summarising key achievements and developments over the past year. In governance matters, members confirmed Armando Carlos Diogo in the role of Second Vice President.

The meeting concluded with the formal ratification of new members to the IMMAF family. Benin, approved by the IMMAF Board of Directors on 15 April 2026, was officially welcomed alongside the Ivory Coast, marking the continued expansion of the federation across Africa.
