The Asia MMA Federation (AMMAF) convened its inaugural elective general assembly on November 5, 2024, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, coinciding with the IMMAF World Championships. Most member federations were present in person, with Japan and Kyrgyzstan participating virtually. Asia IMMAF Vice President Wissam Abi Nader was also in attendance at this pivotal gathering.
IMMAF President Kerrith Brown opened the meeting by commending AMMAF’s interim board for its dedication and progress. He emphasized the importance of establishing a solid continental structure within IMMAF’s framework, which strengthens governance and unites regions within the global MMA community. Brown expressed his gratitude to interim President Mohamed Qamber for his leadership and noted Asia’s potential to drive youth development in MMA, fostering a new generation of talent.
Interim President Mohamed Qamber provided a summary of recent accomplishments, including the 2023 Asia Youth Championship in Bahrain and the 2024 Junior and Senior Championships in Pakistan. The next scheduled event is the 2024 Youth Asia Championship, also in Bahrain. Qamber’s recent nomination to join the IMMAF Board as a non-executive member necessitated his resignation from the AMMAF leadership, leaving the role open to a new president.
