IMMAF Featherweight world champion Elias Erber (pictured) is well on his way to joining the likes of Ramazan Gitinov, Sabrina Sousa, Bagdat Zhubanysh, and many more before them as a certified IMMAF legend. This Saturday, in Belgrade, Serbia, ‘’No Time’’ added European gold to an already stacked resume with a hugely dominant performance over Ugo-Antton Vidal, who had a dominant run to the final himself.
But when the brightest lights in amateur mixed martial arts shone bright, it was time for Elias Erber to further create more history as he earned Team Austria’s only gold of the night in a thrilling matchup. After a run to the final with several decision victories, Erber saved the best for last as he went for broke from the first bell, getting into dangerous positions and welcoming the heavy hands of Vidal.
After nearly finishing the fight in the first round, Elias picked up the pace in the second frame, and used his ground and pound to earn a TKO victory and a shiny new gold medal to add to an ever-increasing collection.
And speaking of ever-increasing collection of gold medals, Team Ukraine once again dominated the competition, winning five golds (with Dmytro Makarov, Ivan Kurelaru, Andrii Misiuk, Anna Hyria, and Marianna Skuba) and two silvers (through Andrii Guslavskyi and Andrii Protasiuk), and wrapping up the competition with very impressive number from Youth C all the way to Seniors.
After an exceptional showing in the Junior and Youth categories, Team Ireland had to settle for a Silver medal in the Seniors, through Flyweight Kian McCarton, who lost to Makarov. There was no gold for France either, who ended up on the losing side with Vidal and Women’s Flyweight Mathilde Aschenbrenner, who lost to Weronika Cislo, from Poland, in a minor upset.
As the competition concluded in Belgrade, the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation now shifts its focus to Africa, where it will host the 2024 edition of the African Championships in Namibia from May 27 to June 1.
