On January 27, the Armenian MMA Federation was recognised by the National Olympic Committee of Armenia. This is a big step for the federation as it pursues sports ministry recognition.
“We applied to the ministry of sports too many times about it, and they told us that our federation should be first recognised by the Armenian National Olympic Committee.” Federation President Armen Mirzoyan said.
“After that, in 2022, we applied to the National Olympic Committee of Armenia and organised a meeting with the head of Secretary Hrachya Rostomyan. They responded that if we submit the required documents we will get recognition. After submitting the documents on the 27th of January, we were informed that the MMA Federation of Armenia is recognised by NOCA.”
With NOC recognition confirmed, the next step for the federation is to achieve governmental recognition as they look to continue developing the sport in Armenia.
“Right now, we want to apply to the ministry of sports to get recognition from them. Also, the importance of recognition is huge for us, as we are the only federation that is recognised by the National Olympic Committee of Armenia. The recognition is first very important for the development of MMA in Armenia. This was a vital step forward for getting a newly developed and improved amateur MMA. And after all, we want to thank all of the representatives of IMMAF led by President Kerrith Brown.”
