Day 3 of the 2022 Youth World Championships has concluded. The action began at 10 am (UTC+3) local time. Seven Youth A divisions competed today, and we saw the world’s best 16 to 17-year-olds compete. Seven world champions were crowned after a busy day in the highly competitive divisions.
During the early bouts, we saw some high-octane action in cage two when Estonia’s Henri Must and Uzbekistan’s Sukhrob Boymamatov were in one of the best bouts of the day. Ireland’s Eoghan Masoliver showed off his grappling prowess and finished his first three bouts via first-round submission.
Angola’s Helio Caio went on quite the run early on as well. In his opening three bantamweight match-ups, he submitted his opponents to make the Angola team’s presence known. However, was unable to secure a medal in the division in which Uzbekistan’s Khasanjon Anvarov came out on top after impressing throughout.
In the strawweight division, Islom Saidov finished four of his five wins via submission to win a world title for Tajikistan.
Kazakhstan’s only gold medal of the day came through Chingiz Zhussupov in the flyweight division after outpointing Yahyo Jumaev in the final.
The atomweight final between Ireland’s Amy Scully and United States’ Abigail Alvarez was non-stop action. Both athletes gave it their all, but it was Alvarez who came out on top to win her second consecutive world title.
In the flyweight division, Mariia Klein also won a second consecutive title, adding another gold medal to Ukraine’s tally. Klein proved a handful on the mat for her opponents and won all her bouts via submission. Ioanna Skuba added a second gold for Ukraine in the second last bout of the day, winning via submission to keep Ukraine in contention at the top of the medals table.
In the curtain closer, Czech Republic’s Jan Korinek became the featherweight world champion as he submitted five of his six opponents. On his path to gold, he overcame some tough competition from the likes of Svetoslav Ivanov and Zaki Kayyali.

The fourth and final day of the competition will see the remaining Youth A divisions take place. Eight weight divisions will compete over the day. Women’s bantamweight, featherweight and lightweight will be contested along with the men’s lightweight, welterweight, middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions.
