IMMAF Welcomes New Turkmenistan Mixed Martial Arts Federation (TKMMAF)

Last month, membership of the Turkmenistan Mixed Martial Arts Federation (TKMMAF) to IMMAF was approved by the IMMAF board on Wednesday, April 20.

The national federation will be headed by Ata Adayev. Adayev is a longstanding member of the Turkmenistan Martial Arts community, having founded the National martial arts federation in 1980. He has previously headed the Sambo Federation of Turkmenistan and has been a long-time coach.

Muhammed Atayewic and Maya Charyewa will also be involved with the federation as directors, and Leyla Kuliyev will serve as the secretary.

The national federation is recognised by the government and formed by nine members, all of which are highly experienced in martial arts. As well as adopting IMMAF standards, they hope to hold national tournaments and events to help further develop the sport and its participants.

The popularity of the sport is growing in Turkmenistan, with many athletes making waves in the pro scene in major organisations. The development of the amateur scene will be vital in this continuing, as the federation aims to form a national team in the future too.

Turkmenistan’s addition will see the number of member federations in Asia rise to twenty-nine.
