The title of “Baddest Man on the Planet” is reserved for the King of the Heavyweights. Challenging for that title is Bahrain’s Rasul Magomedov. With an IMMAF World Championship gold medal, Rasul will solidify himself as one of the greatest amateur mixed martial artists on the planet.
Relatively unknown until 2021, Magomedov exploded onto the scene, winning gold at the European Championships, as well as at the Prague World Cup. Undefeated (6-0), this elite wrestler has proved to be a nightmare match-up for all his opponents. At just 27-years-old, his athletic prime is still ahead of him.
Throughout the 2021 World Championships, he has dominated with takedowns and top control. Against Tom Holemann in the semi-final, he easily controlled a much larger man to win a unanimous decision victory.
Magomedov also has an extremely impressive win over Kyle Snyder in a wrestling competition. Snyder is the youngest Olympic Gold medallist in US wrestling history, an Olympic Silver medallist, and the youngest US Wrestling World Champion. Magomedov’s recent defeat of Snyder speaks to his truly world-class grappling ability.
Standing opposite Rasul is the RMMAU’s Shamil Kuramagomedov. Shamil is no stranger to elite competition. He made it to the final of the 2019 IMMAF World Championships, winning a silver medal. As a Dagestani, his wrestling pedigree is strong, making him a fascinating match-up with Rasul.
An IMMAF World Championship gold medal is the most prestigious prize in amateur mixed martial arts. Rasul Magomedov has looked unstoppable en route to the final. If he is victorious, he will complete his takeover of the division, and prove to the world he is the King of the Heavyweights.
