Observational membership has been approved by the IMMAF board of directors for the national governing body, MMA Senegal.
MMA Senegal is a highly promising not-for-profit governing body that now joins the flourishing footprint of IMMAF members on the continent of Africa committed to the legitimate development of Mixed Martial Arts.
Under the leadership of the organisation’s president, Papa Demba Kane, MMA Senegal is recognised by the Senegalese Ministry of Interior, and is connected to clubs across the capital, Dakar, amongst other regions.
The national governing body was founded in 2012 to promote and engage people in combat sports, MMA in particular. As a former MMA competitor with over 10 years of experience working in the finance industry, Pape Demba Kane and the organisation’s directors are leading the body with valuable combined experience relating to both the sport of MMA as well as relevant avenues for further development.
For increased members and a platform for local athlete opportunity, exciting plans are in place for a supportive collaboration with the hugely popular national wrestling scene, to establish thousands of MMA licenses.
MMA Senegal is committed to developing Mixed Martial Arts in the country by providing practitioners, especially the nation’s youth, with the ability to explore their capabilities. The organisation has developed a trained workforce including volunteers and a board of trustees that brings together diverse experience from industries including martial arts, coaching and club management, journalism and media as well as the financial sector.
MMA Senegal president, Papa Demba Kane, commented: “All the staff and I are very happy to be part of this international body, the IMMAF. On behalf of the entire board of directors I would like to thank IMMAF. This will give us more legitimacy to participate, teach and train MMA in Senegal. Senegalese youth are very dynamic and very athletic, and this will open up more possibilities for them to express their positive energies which will constitute development for the Ministry of Sport in Senegal and will undoubtedly put provisions in place for the success and a definitive membership of Senegalese MMA at the international level.”
