A two-time Gold medalist at the IMMAF World Championships and UMMAF National Championships, Torres turned pro with a 25-1 Amateur MMA record, following his second triumph at the 2015 IMMAF Worlds in Las Vegas, USA. Having become the face of Amateur MMA at its highest level, Torres made history as the first 0-0 professional to sign with standout U.S promotion, Titan FC. As a product of Combat-Do in Cicero, Illinois, Torres also joined Bahrain based stable, KHK MMA, alongside fellow IMMAF champion Frans Mlambo, Amateur veteran James Gallagher, plus former UFC champion Frankie Edgar. Torres has proven the worth of his extensive Amateur experience with an undefeated start at the pro level. Torres is currently 2-0 having snatched victory via a Guillotine Choke submission in just over two minutes for his Titan FC debut. Torres then made his way to the world renowned Jackson-Winkeljohn MMA Academy in New Mexico ahead of facing Brazilian Reynaldo Duarte, a veteran of 16 professional bouts, who was handily defeated by Torres via Unanimous Decision. Now, with Titan FC champion Tim Elliot currently taking part in the latest season of the UFC’s Ultimate Fighter, Torres has been handed the opportunity at a first professional crown. In the co-main event of Titan FC 40 on August 5th, Torres will face Abdiel Velazquez (7-2) for the promotion’s interim 125lb championship – read more at MMAFighting.com. Following the bout announcement, Torres stated: “Win or lose this title fight, I have already made history and demonstrated that if you have a long and experienced amateur career, it will get you much more respect as a professional! When is the last time you heard of a 2-0 pro fighter getting a well known title shot? Follow the example, but create your own path to make history!” Torres was a guest at the 2016 IMMAF World Championships, contested earlier this month from July 5th – July 10th at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The 2016 IMMAF Worlds culminated at the UFC Fan Expo where Torres also featured alongside UFC veterans for a meet-and-greet and autograph sessions with fans. At the IMMAF Championships draw on July 4th, Torres gave a speech to all national teams and competitors in attendance where he expressed the benefits of dedicating oneself to achieving extensive Amateur experience and how this can greatly benefit an athlete’s eventual pro transition, should they strive to achieve the international spotlight through the IMMAF platform.
