The gathering, exclusively for IMMAF | WMMAA members, marks an opportunity to attend the most informative and insightful weekend on the IMMAF | WMMAA calendar, bringing together global stakeholders of national MMA development alongside figureheads of the IMMAF | WMMAA leadership.
The weekend presents an opportunity to participate in governance and technical seminars relating to MMA. Among them, IMMAF CEO Densign White (pictured) will present a talk on ‘The ABCs of Good Governance.’
He explains, “In general terms governance is operating and managing our organisations in the right manner. My discussion will be asking the question: what is good governance and what does that cover, what does that mean practically?”
Key features set to be covered in the ‘ABC’s of Good Governance’ include:
- Protecting the organisation’s reputation
- The role of the board and agreed delegated responsibilities between the staff and committees etc
- Holding regular minuted board meetings, annual AGM’s
- Management of conflicts of interest
- Financial management
- Strategic planning
- Keeping a risk register and identifying risk to the business
Commenting on the undeniable need for good governance within MMA, and how unified governance is essential for MMA’s future within the community of recognized sports, the IMMAF CEO added, “The perception of MMA within authorities and regulatory bodies is not good. Because of that we are constantly having to try to change perceptions which also needs to be backed up with what we are doing in reality to alleviate those fears. Arguing, as some do, that because there is corruption in the world of sport that we should not have regulation or governance is completely irrational and makes no sense.”
