The 2009 world judo champion and French sports standout claimed another first round stoppage within seconds of the opening round to earn the Cedar Fighting Championships bantamweight title on September 3 (bout footage below). Ribout made headlines in 2016 as Le Point, an established political and news magazine, revealed that the prominent athlete was preparing to cross over to MMA. IMMAF.org looked at Ribout’s debut performance in May, discussing her potential as a ‘ready made star‘ for French MMA. Ribout continues to show awareness for developing a well rounded skill set, setting up her signature grappling offence with strikes and frequently sharing training updates via social media @MorganeRiboutMMA. Upon the news of her transition last year, Ribout spoke out regarding the acceptance of MMA in France which has faced heavy opposition from influential figures within French Judo. “In my opinion, MMA in France is attacked by ignorance,” Ribout stated. “People rely on gossip and speak about what they might have heard about MMA. But there is some serious misinformation. And what is also to be seen is that all those who are well informed on the subject are unanimous: MMA is a magnificent sport. And we must structure it rather than push it to one side. Messieurs Vignal and Grosperrin are judokas at core. And after months of hearing and analysis on the subject, they came to the conclusion that MMA clearly had its place in the panorama of French sport.” ]]>
