Photo by Anja Dorny Germany’s Julia Dorny stormed through Finnish opponent Chamia Chabbi on Day 3 of the #2016IMMAFWorlds, clinching a place in the Women’s Featherweight semi-final and a guaranteed podium finish. Dorny, the 2015 World Championships and European Open Bronze medalist, wasted no time in picking up significant momentum in stylish fashion by calling upon her Judo roots. The Judo black belt nailed a hip-toss on Chabbi and loosened up her opponent with strikes before finishing the bout with a Juji Ashi gatame (Armbar) submission, all in just 33 seconds of the opening round. All athletes hope for swift victory as they progress towards the IMMAF finals, and Dorny’s masterful finish has allowed her to pick up momentum and stay 100% fresh before facing off against Fatime Nánási in the semi-final on July 8th. “It was a really good first round and I hope to continue like that,” Dorny explained. “Going to the semi-final feeling 100% feels great. My club Randori Pro and coach Lutz Heyden supported me all the way in getting here again. Thanks to my sponsors; CARL BENZ ACADEMY, Sanitätshaus Seeger GmbH & Co. KG, German movie actor Jürgen Vogel, Lululemon Athletica Berlin, and Badboy who sponsor the entire German team. On the opposite side of the bracket, 2015 European Open Lightweight champion Leah McCourt also progressed to the Featherweight semis after dropping to 145lbs and submitting Australia’s Yvonne Chow via Kimura. McCourt faces off against the USA’s Taryn Conklin in the semi-final bout. You can view the brackets over at MyNextMatch.com.
