Frankie Edgar will take part in his first fight as a member of Team KHK, a Bahrain based stable of international and Bahraini fighters financially backed by team founder Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Edgar officially signed with the rapidly growing team in September, joining fellow UFC standout Khabib Nurmagomedov; and Bahrain hosted the 34-year-old’s training camp ahead of his main event clash with Chad Mendes this Friday in Las Vegas, Nevada at the TUF 22 Finale . In addition to their training, the recognizable veterans also bring the benefit of coaching expertise and serve as a source of inspiration to the host of young amateurs and professionals who also have their place on the team. At the launch of Team KHK, an international lineup of amateur talent was presented including two-time IMMAF bantamweight world champion Jose Torres (25-1), who makes his professional debut with standout American promotion Titan FC on December 18. In addition, 2015 IMMAF featherweight world champion Frans Mlambo made his own professional debut as a KHK man in September with a first round TKO win at BAMMA 22 in Dublin, Ireland, and his fellow Irishman, James Gallagher, was also invited to join the team after injury brought a premature end to his IMMAF World Championship bid following victory in the opening round in July. The fruits of Bahrain’s home grown talent was on display most recently at the IMMAF European Open Championships in Walsall, England, which took place from November 19th to 22nd. Bahrain featured with their own amateur national team and succeeded in achieving a podium position with Hussain Maki Mahdi earning a bronze medal with two victories making him one to watch out for as he continues to develop.]]>
