Pictured: Norway’s Eivind D. S. Kjonsvik (3rd right) medals with silver in the Men’s Light Heavyweight division at the 2014 IMMAF World Championships With registration for the 2015 IMMAF European Open Championships in its final stages, and athlete submissions coming in thick and fast, the first full team to complete athlete registration is Team Norway. Subject to clearance by IMMAF, the Norwegian Mixed Martial Arts Federation is set to be represented by 12 athletes, including (2) female competitors for the first time. The Norwegian team picked up 3 silver medals and 1 bronze in the inaugural 2014 IMMAF World Championships in Las Vegas, with silvers scored by Eivind D. S. Kjonsvik (Men’s Light Heavyweight), Gard Olve Sagen (Men’s Middleweight) and Kristian Lindstrøm Skogmo (Men’s Flyweight). Joachim Tollefsen earned bronze in the Men’s Welterweight category. The team did not compete in this year’s world championships, and will be looking to make a dent in the recently launched IMMAF World Amateur MMA Rankings. Full contact MMA competition is not legal in Norway, and only technical sparring contests are permitted by the government in NMMAF licensed gyms. However, both amateur and professional Norwegian athletes are known for achieving well in matches outside the country. Team welterweight, Jørgen Indsetviken, recently came home victorious from a full contact bout in England on BCMMA 12, sanctioned the the United Kingdom Mixed Martial Arts Federation. The team for the IMMAF European Open was selected in recent tryouts held by the NMMAF on 12th September at Oslo Fight Centre. See below for details of the complete Norwegian Team:
