#ThrowbackThursday: Serbian fighter Dusan Džakić saves choking opponent

International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) takes a look back at some of the best sportsmanship and good morals displayed across the various platforms of Mixed Martial Arts. On Dec. 6, 2014 Serbian Battle Championship 4 took place with Serbian welterweight Dusan Džakić taking on Croatian opponent Sebastian Emini, who accepted the fight on short notice. Džakić won the contest during the opening round with a Guillotine Choke, however there was a brief scare when Emini fell unconscious and swallowed his tongue as the stoppage was completed and Dzakic released. Both Džakić and the referee rushed to remove Emini’s gumshield and release the fighter’s tongue. Emini regained conciousness moments later. Serbia and Croatia stand as two individual republics of the former Yugoslavia, but a degree of nationalist rivalry has remained following the Yugoslav Wars. In his post-fight interview Džakić endorsed respect and good sporting values between the two nations. Translated from Kurir.rs: “When I saw that he fell unconscious , I turned him on his side with judge’s help and took out his mouthpiece and pulled his tongue out so he wouldn’t suffocate. The kid is very brave because not everyone would accepted the fight five days prior to the match, that’s why I respect him. It doesn’t matter that he’s Croatian. I’m not a nationalist”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnM83P3LzHQ [/spb_text_block]]]>
