THE UKMMAF ANNOUNCES 2015 UK TEAM TRYOUTS

FOR THE 2015 IMMAF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS OF AMATEUR MMA, LAS VEGAS (USA) – JULY 2015 (London. 14th January 2015) The United Kingdom Mixed Martial Arts Federation has announced the schedule for its UK Team Tryouts for the 2015 IMMAF World Championships of Amateur MMA. The competition is set to return for its second year to Las Vegas, Nevada (USA) in the week commencing the 5th July to coincide with the the Fourth Annual UFC International Fight Week. 2014 saw the British team scoop 5 medals, over a 5 day tournament that attracted 23 teams across 5 continents. Josh Stacey McManus made it through to the finals which took place inside the UFC Fan Expo® to score a silver medal at Welterweight. Meanwhile, team members Carl Burton, Jordan Chester, Charlie Day and Daniel Cassell brought home bronze medals in the Bantamweight, Featherweight, Lightweight and Middleweight divisions respectively. Sixth team member, Jamie Powell, lost to ultimate 2014 IMMAF Flyweight Champion, Carlos Hernandez (USA), in the early rounds. The UK team was led by head coach and UFC fighter, Luke Barnatt, and Tsunami coach, Nigel Burgess who volunteered their time. The 2015 Tryouts will be held regionally at various gyms across the UK as follows: SCHEDULE FOR UK TEAM TRYOUTS

  • 1st March 2015:  Avaddon MMA, Harecroft Road, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire PE13 1RL
  • 8th March 2015:   Fight Science Leeds, Unit 10, Howley Park Road, Morley, West Yorkshire, LS27 0BP
  • 15th March 2015: Outlaw MMA, Northway Trading Estate, Northway Lane, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire GL20 8JH
  • 22nd March 2015: Combat Sports Academy, 1 Cuxton Road, Custon Road, Rochester, Kent ME2 2BT
  • March/ April 2015: Scotland (date and location to be confirmed according to applications)
2014 UK Team Coach and international fighter, Luke Barnatt, said: “Last year’s world championships showed the potential of the event and how it really will shape the future of Amateur MMA. It is a real opportunity to represent your country in the biggest worldwide competition MMA has ever held.
