Lionel Brézéphin, the Technical Director of FMMAF, oversees all development actions, ensuring that FMMAF’s programs are executed effectively. Growth in Licenses
One of the standout achievements of the 2023/2024 season has been the substantial rise in the number of registered fighters. FMMAF issued a total of 8,922 licenses, marking a doubling of licenses compared to the 2022/2023 season. This rapid growth translates to a staggering 334% increase compared to the 2021/2022 season. Despite this impressive expansion, there remain regional disparities in participation, particularly in rural areas where the distance from urban centres and limited financial resources are contributing factors. FMMAF is actively addressing these challenges to further promote the sport across the entire country.
Technical Grades Achievements
The awarding of technical grades also saw significant momentum. A total of 3,086 grades were distributed during the 2023/2024 season, with the vast majority—2,808—being green grades. The green grade holds particular importance as it serves as the gateway to obtaining an amateur license, allowing fighters to participate in federal training courses and competitions. This reflects FMMAF’s commitment to providing clear pathways for fighters to grow and develop in the sport.
Expansion of Federal Training Programs
FMMAF has made notable advancements in its training programs, continually refining the qualifications available to coaches and fighters. The introduction of Federal Certificates Level 1 and 2 (BF1 and BF2), which are gradually replacing the CFI certifications, has been a key part of this development. In the 2023/2024 season, 512 federal certificates were awarded, representing a 235% increase from the previous season.
Increased Competitions
Competitions in both the amateur and professional ranks have also experienced growth under FMMAF’s oversight. The 2023/2024 season saw 42 professional and 19 amateur competitions take place, with a notable increase in the number of amateur fights. The number of amateur bouts rose from 36 to 149 between the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 seasons, offering more opportunities for fighters to gain competitive experience and develop their skills.
French National Team’s International Success
On the international stage, the French national team has made its mark, particularly at the 2023 IMMAF World Championships in Tirana. Of particular note was Souhil Arezki, who captured gold in the Junor bantamweight division. Alongside Arezki’s crowning achievement, the French team collected several multiple medals across both European and World Championships.. These successes underline FMMAF’s ability to develop world-class talent capable of excelling in international competition.
Expansion of the MMA League
To sustain this growth and provide regular competition opportunities, FMMAF has continued to expand its MMA League. The league, structured around the number of licensees and clubs in each region, has maintained an average of 10 events per year, ensuring consistent competitive outlets for athletes at all levels.
