IMMAF Youth World Champion Raul Rosas Jr. Makes History Again at UFC 306

By Frank Bonada

Former IMMAF Youth World Champion Raul Rosas Jr. has once again etched his name into the history books, this time at UFC 306, where he became the first fighter to secure a victory at Las Vegas’ cutting-edge venue, The Sphere.

The 19-year-old standout claimed a unanimous decision win over China’s Aoriqileng, adding another significant milestone to his meteoric rise in mixed martial arts.

Rosas Jr.’s victory carried particular significance due to the historic timing of the event. While he represented Team USA during his time with IMMAF, Rosas Jr.’s strong Mexican heritage made it a momentous occasion for the young fighter, with UFC 306 taking place on Mexican Independence Day.

This marks the second time Rosas Jr. has made UFC history. In December 2022, at UFC 282, he became the youngest athlete to compete in the UFC at just 18 years old. His debut came after a stellar showing on Dana White’s Contender Series, where a dominant three-round performance earned him a UFC contract. At the time, UFC President Dana White would be quick to recognize Rosas Jr.’s potential, stating:

“Both guys pushed themselves as hard as they could. And for a 17-year-old to conduct himself the way he did in this fight, I was blown away by it. Blown away.”

“I’m very, very impressed with this kid. He’s absolutely special. The amount of fighters that were blowing me up going, ‘Oh my God. This kid is for real. This kid is legit. Impressive.”

Before turning pro, Rosas Jr. honed his skills on the amateur circuit as part of Team USA, capturing gold at the 2019 IMMAF Youth World Championships. His amateur experience laid a strong foundation for his professional career, where his trajectory continues to rise.

Rosas Jr.’s achievement comes at a time when both Mexican and U.S. athletes are celebrating their successes at the recent 2024 IMMAF Pan American Championships in Mexico. His journey will undoubtedly serve as an inspiration to the next generation of aspiring IMMAF athletes aiming to follow in his footsteps.

As Raul Rosas Jr. continues to break barriers and make history in the UFC, his legacy as a former IMMAF Youth World Champion and one of the sport’s brightest young stars only grows stronger with each victory.
