The International Mixed Martial Arts Federations (IMMAF) confirms that following an Extraordinary General Meeting on 3 June, it was agreed that Mr. George Sallfeldt (Vice-President) and Mr. August Wallen (Honorary President), would no longer be part of the IMMAF Board of Directors with immediate effect.
In accordance with IMMAF statutes Article 23, the EGM was triggered after one fifth of the members with voting rights submitted formal written requests to call an EGM. The EGM was hosted online.
As per the IMMAF Statutes, the vote was open to all members who have paid their annual fees.
The grounds for removal were based on what members believe to be deliberate attempts to undermine the organisation by spreading false information about the running of the organisation and in particular the role of the current President and Chief Executive Officer.
To underpin this desire for fairness, an independent moderator from the Geoff Wilson Consultancy was appointed.
At the EGM, the motion for the removal of the IMMAF founders was passed with the following voting count:
Yes – 37
No – 14
Abstain – 1
No votes – 2
Invalid votes – 3
IMMAF President, Kerrith Brown commented: “Following the EGM, it’s time for all federations to move on and find unity so we can continue to develop the sport of MMA that makes it fit for purpose for the next generation of MMA athletes and administrators. The goal of recognition within the Olympic family is very close to hand so let us unite and emerge even stronger.”
IMMAF wishes to now draw a line under this matter in order to fully focus on the development of the sport. For any members who still have doubts about the legitimacy of the election, they should bring up the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) as mandated by the statutes.
