Since 2014, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the anti-doping community have celebrated Play True Day, an annual event that promotes clean sport, fair play, and ethical behaviour in sports, with a focus on raising awareness about the dangers and consequences of doping and encourage everyone to work together to protect the integrity of sports and the rights of athletes.
This year’s theme is “#OnePlayTrueTeam”, which highlights the importance of having a network of individuals that help an athlete.
As the only international Mixed Martial Arts organisation recognised by WADA, IMMAF is fighting for a clean sport. To mark 2023 Play True Day, IMMAF is joining the anti-doping community in celebrating the annual event to raise awareness of the importance of doping prevention.
IMMAF President Kerrith Brown said:
“As the global governing body for amateur MMA, IMMAF is fully committed to promoting clean sport and the values of fair play and integrity. We strongly support the World Anti-Doping Agency’s ‘Play True Day’ as a reminder of the importance of these values, not just in sports but in life. For our sport, which is still in its early stages of development, it is crucial that we build the future of MMA on a foundation of clean and fair competition.
“By working together with WADA and other partners in the anti-doping community, we can ensure that MMA continues to grow and thrive as a sport that is respected for its skill, athleticism, and sportsmanship. ‘Play True Day’ is a call to action for all athletes, coaches, and fans to join us in this effort to build the future of MMA as a sport that upholds the highest standards of ethical conduct and sportsmanship.”
As part of the Anti-Doping structure within IMMAF, the Anti-Doping Disciplinary Committee is responsible for the management and resolution of any asserted Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) or other dispute arising from the implementation of those rules policies and procedures arising from the Results Management Process as described in the Anti-Doping Rules (ADR).
Anti-Doping Disciplinary Committee member Sophie Mueller added:
“WADA’s Play True Day is dedicated to Clean Sport and raising awareness among athletes, the sporting public and others on the importance of preventing doping. We are all responsible for creating a culture of clean sport to protect the integrity of MMA. IMMAF has a good Anti-Doping testing program to ensure there is a level of fairness and safety among our athletes. For athletes, clean sport is about having respect for the sport, their support team, the rules, and their opponents. Fight fair, test clean. IMMAF is committed to building our future on Clean MMA.”
