NATIONAL FEDERATIONS CAN NOW REGISTER TEAMS ON SMOOTHCOMP
Athlete registration is now open for all national federations outside of the top 32 ranked countries for the 2022 IMMAF World Championships.
Until December 21, the top 32 ranked nations had the priority option to enter one athlete per the IMMAF World rankings list as of November 7, 2022.
Brackets are now open to all national federations outside of the top 32 ranked teams, who also have a priority option to enter one athlete in each weight division if there are any spaces available in the brackets by the outline cut-off date, Friday, January 6, 2023.
After this date, pending the availability of space, the top 32 ranked countries will be able to register a second athlete in each weight division by Monday, January 9, 2023. Following this date, teams ranked 33 and below can enter a second competitor on a first come, first served basis by Friday, January 13, 2023.
Hosted by the Serbian MMA Federation, the two amateur tournaments are to take place at Štark Arena, in Novi Beograd (Belgrade), Serbia, from 11 to 18 February. IMMAF’s OTT platform, immaf.tv will stream all bouts for fans all over the world.
The Championships will hold six weight divisions for female athletes, from Atomweight to Lightweight, and ten for male athletes, from Strawweight to Super Heavyweight. There will be both Senior and Junior categories. Those interested in competing should contact their IMMAF-affiliated national MMA federation for information. The deadline for entries is 13 January 2023. The competition will be conducted per the latest IMMAF Amateur rules.
The 2022 World Championships will be the first edition of the competition to take place following the introduction of closed continental championships.
This year’s continental championships saw new stars emerge along with some familiar faces cementing their place amongst the elite.
World Gold Medalists Magdalena Czaban and Sabrina De Sousa topped their respective divisions, while Giulliany Perea claimed her first IMMAF gold medal at the Pan American Championships.
In the men’s ranks, Ramazan Gitinov continued his dominance over the welterweight division ahead of his push for a third world gold medal. 2021 World Championships breakout star Fergus Jenkins enjoyed a year without defeat, and 2022 African Championships gold medalist Veja Hinda put the featherweight division on notice after showcasing his abilities on the IMMAF platform for the first time.
