On Thursday, December 1, the Nigerian Mixed Martial Arts Federation (NMMAF) demonstrated the sport of Mixed Martial Arts as part of Nigeria’s National Festival of Sport.
The demonstration presented the sport as both a recreational and competitive youth engagement platform in front of national and state leaders, highlighting the safety of the sport.
The NMMAF are striving to get the sport recognised by the government and their presentation of the sport at the National Sports Festival will be a significant step in this direction.
IMMAF President Kerrith Brown travelled to Nigeria to attend the event and appeared on national television stations Silverbird N24, Channels TV and TVC News to discuss the future of MMA in Nigeria.
Following the event, Brown, joined by NMMAF President Amb Henry George and Vice-President Mario WANNY, met with the Minister of Youth and Sports Development Sunday Dare to discuss the recognition of the sport in Nigeria.
Speaking about the trip, he said:
“It was an amazing event at the Delta 2022 National Sports Festival. I am very proud and delighted to be a guest and to have finally met the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development Mr Sunday Dare.”
