Angolan MMA Federation (FAMMA) Holds First Set of National Championships

By Caoilte de Barra

From November 26-27, the Angolan MMA Federation (FAMMA) held its first National Championships. The historic two-day tournament took place at the Pavilhao Anexo in Luanda.

The event was streamed live on the federation’s Facebook page and is available to watch back. The championships saw brackets contested for both youth and senior athletes.

In the youth brackets, Emanuel Alfredo and Hernani Airosa, who were both on the team that travelled to compete at the 2022 Youth World Championships, won gold in their divisions.

Luan Shaka returned to action following his first outing for the national team earlier this year. The lightweight athlete took gold in his division after winning four bouts in his bracket.

A full list of results from each bracket can be found here

The federation is after having a very successful first year in IMMAF. The national team’s maiden appearance came at the 2022 Africa Championships, which saw the nation pick up a total of thirteen medals.

Following the success of the National Championships, FAMMA will host level one of the IMMAF coach certification course from December 10-11 as it looks to continue to develop the sport nationally in Angola.
