The Israel MMA federation (ISRMMAF) has made history with the announcement of the formation of its women’s national team for the IMMAF world championship. The first member of the squad to be announced is Rony Nisimian, who will compete in the bantamweight division.
Nisimian commented on the announcement: “I’m very happy and excited to be part of the Israeli MMA national team and be part of history – the first fighter on the women’s team. I hope I can exploit all of my experience to the cage at the world championships, and I will try to represent our country with great honour.”
The 22-year-old is a well-known Israeli BJJ player that has competed as part of the national team setup. The BJJ black belt started her martial arts journey at nine years of age and has medalled at multiple IBJJF and JJIF competitions, including two IBJJF world silver medals.
Speaking on Nisimian becoming the first female athlete on the Israel national team, ISRMMAF CEO Ido Pariente added:
“As Israel’s MMA Federation, our mission is to develop our sport in our country, and this is our chance to open the door for a lot of women and young girls who want to be MMA fighters. Rony is well known in the martial arts world in Israel and is a very experienced fighter in international tournaments due to her accomplishments. We are honoured and privileged to have her as the first-ever woman fighter on the national team.”
