- 22 – 24 June 2022
The International Mixed Martial Arts Federation today announced the provisional list of national teams and athletes competing in the 2022 IMMAF Pan American Championships, which will be broadcast live from Monterrey on immaf.tv between the 22 and 24 June.
Hosted by FAMMEJL (the Mexican Federation of Mixed Martial Arts) at the Gimnasio Nuevo León Independiente. This tournament will be closed to Pan American nations. Participating nations include Aruba, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, United States and Uruguay.
Mexico will be in action on the back of an active start to the year that saw them attend the World Championships and MMA SuperCup. The highly touted Diego Torres is set to return to action in the Middleweight division. Torres was one of Mexico’s breakout stars at the World Championships. He won a bronze medal after two finishes brought him to the semi-finals.
Brazil entered an identical team to the World Championships, including medalists Josiane Oliveira and Giulliany Perea. The Brazilian standouts were unknown heading into the World Championships and left as top talents in their respective divisions. Oliveira won a bronze medal for her efforts at Bantamweight. Meanwhile, Perea fell short in the final and walked away with a silver medal.
This will be the first senior championships event for the United States team under the newly affiliated United States Fight League. The USFL has previously been involved in putting together a team to represent their nation at the Youth World Championships. However, they will now take charge of the senior team for the first time as well. Amongst their participants is David Camacho, who fought at the 2021 World Championships. He lost a split decision to Daniele Caldarera in his sole bout, which was one of the most exciting fights of the competition.
A Championship Pass will be available on immaf.tv for the Pan American Championships, providing three days of MMA.
