KAZAN – RUSSIA, 15 – 20 AUGUST 2021
IMMAF has published the lists of national teams and athletes registered for its 2021 Senior & Junior European Open Championships. 172 competitors have entered into the senior tournament and 86 into the juniors in the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation’s first event back for adults since the pandemic.
The two amateur nations tournaments are to take place concurrently from 16- 20 August in Kazan, Russia at the Basket-Hall arena, with the Tournament Draw on 15 August.
The championships will be hosted by the Russian MMA Union, with backing from the Russian Sports Ministry. The Russian team has proved dominant in IMMAF competitions, placing 1st in the Junior rankings and second in the Senior rankings. It also achieved the top spot in both the Junior and Senior European Championships medals tables in 2019, attaining 5 gold medals in each tournament, and a further 4 silver and 2 bronzes across both. Much is to be anticipated too in 2021 from Russia’s burgeoning women’s divisions, as the Ministry of Sport this year recognised MMA as an official sports discipline for women.
All registered athletes are now subject to clearance by IMMAF, including pro / am eligibility, medical and making weight.
