Former IMMAF World Champion Amanda Ribas Set to Face Mackenzie Dern at UFC Fight Night

Former IMMAF world champion Amanda Ribas (7-1) will be taking on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu sensation Mackenzie Dern (7-0), on the Oct. 12 UFC Fight Night card, reported by ESPN.

Both athletes are reported to have agreed to the 115lb strawweight bout while contracts are yet to be signed.

Ribas continues her prominent professional career in the UFC, the 25-year-old Brazilian made her debut in the world’s premier MMA organisation on June 19, submitting Emily Whitmire.

The former amateur world champion faced an uncertain start to life in the UFC. Ahead of her initial debut date, Ribas was handed a two-year suspension having tested positive for the banned substance Ostarine.

However, USADA, the UFC’s anti-doping partner, announced a full reversal of the decision last May due to trace amounts of the substance being consistent with the threshold of a contaminated supplement, thus Ribas was free to compete.

Ribas was among the inaugural IMMAF amateur MMA world champions in 2014, earning the gold medal in the women’s flyweight division. Representing the Brazilian national team under CABMMA (Brazilian MMA Atheltic Commission), Ribas bested both Gabriella Ringblom (Sweden) and Micol DiSegni (Italy) by way of unanimous decision. Ringblom and DiSegni would both go on to win the IMMAF world title in subsequent years.
