By IMMAF.org lead writer, Jorden Curran In 2015 Jose “Shorty” Torres became known as ‘the world’s most decorated amateur’ upon clinching the IMMAF bantamweight world title for a second consecutive year. The two-time IMMAF world gold medalist concluded his sensational amateur tenure with a bar-raising 25-1 record. For Torres, his only taste of defeat came in his amateur debut, and he never looked back while crafting a 25-bout win streak, massing regional titles in addition to multiple UMMAF national championships and IMMAF world championship triumphs in 2014 and 2015. You can watch his title clinching victories of the 2014 & 2015 IMMAF World Championships tournament, at immaf.tv. Upon turning professional, his reputation as a two-time World Championships gold medalist saw Torres become the first ever contender to join prominent U.S. based promotion, Titan FC, with an 0-0 record. In just his third professional bout, Jose Torres featured in the co-main event of Titan FC 40 and won his first professional world title in the promotion’s flyweight division. Nine months later, and following a successful flyweight title defense, he showcased his so far flawless skillset once again and made history as a two-weight world champion, claiming the Titan FC Bantamweight crown. Now 7-0, Torres steps in on short notice to make his UFC debut against 13-1 flyweight contender Jared Brooks, at UFC Fight Night in Utica, New York on June 1. IMMAF President Kerrith Brown issued a message of thanks and support for the 25-year-old trailblazer, who showcased to up and comers worldwide the full extent of what can be achieved through IMMAF’s international amateur platform: Jose, On behalf of IMMAF I would like to congratulate you on your signing with the UFC. I wish you the best for your debut in Utica and for what promises to be a very successful future. I thank you for your participation and support of IMMAF and its vision over the past few years. I hope that you will continue to champion the cause of IMMAF and amateur MMA throughout your journey. All the best, Kerrith.]]>
