Khaled Abdel Hamid, EMMAC continues its efforts in building a domestic platform for Egyptian athletes competing under approved amateur rules. In addition, the official EMMAC contests served as qualifying bouts for athletes to join the debut of Egypt’s national amateur team at the upcoming 2017 IMMAF World Championships in Manama, Bahrain, taking place from 12 – 19 November. First announced as an IMMAF member in January 2016, EMMAC was formed as democratic, non-profit sport federation under the directive the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sport. The committee’s founding group has been promoting mixed martial arts since April 2010 and, in an unregulated landscape, focused from the outset on establishing professional processes. The group was also responsible for the first Amateur mixed martial arts events in the country, under the banner of IMMAF EGYPT. Despite obstacles, the pioneering work of the team led to a sway of opinion in their country. With the anticipation of further growth at the national level, EMMAC has expressed interest in seeing Cairo host the 2018 IMMAF African Open Championships. The 2017 African Open takes place this week on Johannesburg, South Africa, hosted by national governing body Mixed Martial Arts South Africa (MMASA).
