Hussain Abdulla has been a regular feature of IMMAF international championships and will be in prime position to reach a Men’s flyweight bracket final for the first time at next month’s IMMAF Asian Open Championships in Singapore. This year the 23-year-old standout became a two-time bronze medalist of the European Open Championships and his position now in the IMMAF rankings will see him enter the -125lb Asian Open bracket as the number 2 seed. The KHK MMA product showcased his best performance to date at the 2017 European Open, besting Ireland’s 2016 world silver medalist David Fogarty via a unanimous decision with impressive boxing skills, evasive movement and takedown defence. Abdulla’s seeding will place him at the opposite end of the bracket to number 1 seed Josh Neale who secured bronze for the UK at the 2016 World Championships in Las Vegas, USA. The Men’s flyweight bracket is completed by Roland Yacoubian (Lebanon), Ernaz Mussabek (Kazakhstan), Siddiq Bin Mahmood (India), Nik Abdul Aziz (Malaysia) and Pakistan’s representative who is to be confirmed. Alongside Abdulla representing Bahrain will also be Men’s Lightweight contender Nayef Fikey. With a pair of victories achieved on home soil Fikey made his international IMMAF debut at this year’s European Open in Sofia where he lost out on the scorecards by way of unanimous decision to Russian standout Ziiad Sadaily. In addition, 2016 European Open veteran Abbas Khan will represent the nation having now been granted citizenship. The promising KHK trained fighter and boxing specialist fought for Pakistan in Prague 2016 and went the distance with eventual silver medalist Lee Hammond. Team Bahrain will travel with national coaches Eldar Eldarov and Mohammed Saad. The 2017 IMMAF Asian Open Championships take place from June 12 -16 at the Marina Bay Sands hotel as IMMAF’s first championship in Asia supported by the UFC’s on-going commitment to developing MMA in the region.
