2016 IMMAF EUROPEAN OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS
PRAGUE, 22 – 26 NOVEMBER
Team Austria stands among those who have supported IMMAF competitions since the 2014 IMMAF World Championships saw the first ever non-profit, international Amateur MMA tournament. The event saw Austria’s Hans Lackner beat tough competition in Poland’s Marcin Kalata to win the 2014 Men’s Heavyweight Gold medal. Kalata has since gone onto win the 2015 Men’s Heavyweight Bronze medal, the 2016 Men’s Super Heavyweight Silver medal and returns again for the upcoming European Open in Prague. Headed by Gerhard and Michael Ettl, AUTMMAF have continued to be core members of the IMMAF community and familiar faces again at the Vegas based IMMAF World Championships in 2015 and 2016. Three IMMAF veterans have registered to represent Austria at the 2016 IMMAF European Open in two weeks time: – Men’s Heavyweight, Lukasz Sniadecki, who lost in his second match at the 2016 World Championships to 2016 World Bronze & 2015 European Gold medallist, Daniel Galbarov. Galbarov is scheduled to represent Bulgaria again at the 2016 Europeans, but if Sniadecki can surpass him or meet him in the later rounds he has opportunity to unleash hidden talent. Sniadecki took his first match at the Worlds by a definitive TKO and lost to Galbarov on a Spolit Decision. – Men’s Super Heavyweight, Damian Visenjak, who lost to Marcin Kalata at the IMMAF World Championships. With Kalata competing again at the upcoming European Open and the Super Heavyweight division featuring just 4 contenders, there is a strong chance they will meet again. – Men’s Middleweight, Florian Aberger, who fell short a Decision loss in his first match in this year’s Worlds The fourth Austrian competitor, one making his debut under the IMMAF banner, is Shamil Muradov (Men’s Welterweight).
