Emma Watson endorses first self defence studio for women in the Middle East

Emma Watson recently took to social media in support of SheFighter, the first self-defense studio for women in the Middle East, based in Jordan and founded by Lina Khalifeh. The Harry Potter star championed the efforts of SheFighter after taking a course at the One Young World Summit in Ottawa, Canada. The 26-year-old has been committed to challenging gender stereotypes and also serves as a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador. Watson stated via Facebook: “Ready for anything after SheFighter training with the amazing Lina Khalifeh, She opened the first self defence studio for women in the Middle East. I’ll be chatting with her and 8 other activists about challenging gender stereotypes at One Young World Ottawa later today.” Jordan was welcomed as the first Middle Eastern representative to become an IMMAF member in 2014. Furthermore, Arabic competitors have been making history since the inaugural IMMAF World Championships in 2014 when Lebanon emerged as the first Arab nation to champion a female competitor, with strawweight contender Rachel Abou Abdallah (pictured below, right) earning Silver.
