2016 World Championships: Team Hungary in Focus

Federation: Hungarian Premium MMA League  Number of competitors: 5 The story of Hungary’s development under IMMAF advertises the national benefits of new member federations enjoying a prosperous first tournament. It started with one man, at the 2015 IMMAF European Open, as the Hungarian Premium MMA League sent Balazs Kiss to test the waters in Walsall, England. Even with the odds stacked against him, Kiss found great success winning a Silver medal for Hungary. Via a unanimous decision victory over Sweden’s Robin Enontekio and a submission win against Irishman Dillon Murphy, Kiss earned his way into the IMMAF European finals. It was a hard-hitting end bout for Kiss, as he found himself up against top Irish prospect Ben Forsyth. The Hungarian imposed his will early on but Forsyth used his superior experience to grind out the victory and claim the Gold medal. Kiss used his first chapter in amateur MMA to gain invaluable expertise which has helped him attain a current professional record to 2-0. As the sole representation for Hungary, Kiss’s fulfilment at the European Open has laid the ground for five new Hungarian competitors to take up the challenge at the #2016IMMAFWorlds. Now a new generation of Hungarian fighters, including the vastly experienced Attila Cziffra and Florian Kristóf, will look to progress along the pathway that Kiss was able to create and write their own chapter in amateur MMA history.
