The Danish Mixed Martial Arts Federation (DMMAF) has sent two combatants to Las Vegas to represent their country in the #2016IMMAFWorlds, with returning veteran Omer Kavakli and IMMAF newcomer Danny Mathiasen. Welterweight Mathiasen is known on the Danish domestic scene for his smothering ground game which has helped him to secure eight amateur wins ahead of his trip to the States. Although the team experienced a dip in 2015, history still shows that the Scandinavian team is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to past victory at the World Championships. Back in 2014, Denmark secured two Gold medals, as Mikkel Kasper became champion of the Middleweight division and Sarah Jamila at women’s Bantamweight. Laying the foundations for Denmark, World Champion Kasper has now made the jump to professional level, where he currently stands undefeated at 2-0. The Danish team may have been more recently overshadowed by the amateur MMA triumphs of neighbouring Nordic countries such as Norway, Sweden, Finland and Iceland, but the squad will be looking to use the 2016 IMMAF World Championships of Amateur MMA to retrieve its glory through notching up its medals count once again.
