TheRingsideView.com, AIMMAA Founder and National Commissioner Daniel Isaac highlighted the details of safety routines and essential protocols established by the All India Mixed Martial Arts Federation (AIMMAA). The AIMMAA serves as India’s government supported regulator of MMA, under the banner of the IMMAF. The AIMMAA Founder broke down the safety measures that are in place for all of India’s santioned MMA events, from fighter licenses and various medical screenings, to on-site medical experts and the requirement that all promoters provide athlete insurance. Upholding approved medical safety standards within MMA is essential for the sport’s healthy and long term development. “Here is the typical protocol followed for every sanctioned MMA event in India under AIMMAA: 1] Fighters are required to apply for licenses under AIMMAA and these licenses are renewed on a yearly basis. 2] Part of the license application process has pre-requisites of fighter medical screenings which ensure that the fighter is eligible to compete in MMA. For pro fights a fighter needs to be a minimum of 18 years of age. 3] Three days, prior to an actual event, the fighters are further subject to medical tests to ensure no recent history of brain trauma or exposure to contagious diseases. 4] At every AIMMAA sanctioned event we ensure the presence of paramedics and cardiac ambulances accompanied by an experienced panel of on-site doctors. Most AIMMAA sanctioned events in India feature the attendance of Dr Dilip Nadkarni, one of the foremost authorities on MMA safety in India. 5] At the actual fights we ensure that ONLY the most experienced MMA referees are supervising the bouts – this is one of the most important features of fighter safety. 6] Lastly we ensure that all MMA promoters provide fighter insurance, this usually covers up to 5 lacs (500,000 Rupees*) for cashless hospitalization and up to 15 lacs (1,500,000 Rupees**) per fighter for post fight medical treatment including tests and surgeries.” *500,000 Rupees – equivalent to approximately £5,100/$7,500 USD/6,500 Euro. **1,500,000 Rupees – equivalent to approximately £15,500/$22,500 USD/19,500 Euro For more information on the AIMMAA and its affiliated gyms visit AIMMAA.org.
