Marc Goddard. In this episode of #AskGoddard Marc discusses the importance of the IMMAF Progression Scheme and certification courses for both experienced and less experienced MMA officials, with an aim to developing a global standard among referees and judges with education and assessment. Launched in 2015, the Czech Republic Mixed Martial Arts Association (MMAA) was the first of IMMAF’s 50 national members to host a certification course for officials, in the city of Prague. Since then, Marc has conducted further courses around the world, hosted by the United States Mixed Martial Arts Federation (UMMAF) in Phoenix; the Romanian Mixed Martial Arts Federation (RMMAF) in Bucharest; the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation of Australia (IMMAFA) in both Melbourne and Brisbane, plus Mixed Martial Arts South Africa (MMASA) in Johannesburg. Through 2015 and 2016 the IMMAF Progression Scheme has welcomed experienced officials with a history of working with standout international promotions, in addition to those from the regional circuit and others of a budding grass roots level. In the long term Goddard believes that IMMAF’s certification of officials will enable leading promoters to select suitable referees and judges from various international territories.
